NATIONAL HIGHWAYS AUTHORITY OF INDIA
The National Highways Authority of India was constituted by an act of Parliament, the National Highways Authority of India Act, 1988. It is responsible for the development, maintenance and management of National Highways entrusted to it and for matters connected or incidental thereto. The Authority was  operationalised in February, 1995.
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is mandated to implement National Highways Development Project (NHDP)

In addition to implementation of National Highways Development Projects, the NHAI is also responsible for implementing some projects on National Highways other than NHDP.NHAI is now responsible for implementing on National Highways of length around 10,000 Km.
